1. Buying over a period of time. For example, this might be done by an institutional investor to avoid making a single substantial purchase that might drive up the market price, or by a retail investor who wants to reduce risk by dollar cost averaging. 2. Retaining profits within a company, as opposed to paying them out as dividends. 3. More generally, any buying.
