Dojima Rice Exchange

The first futures exchange market in Japan. The Exchange was initially prohibited by the government as it was regarded to be a form of gambling. However it was licensed in the 17th century in order to meet the needs of the samurai who are paid in rice but needs to have it converted into coin.
