An amended provision of the Defense Production Act of 1950 that took effect in 1988. It allows the President of the United States to prevent the acquisition of any U.S. based company by a foreign firm when there are national security concerns involved. This provision applies when there is clear evidence that the lack of control of the company could threaten any aspect of the nation's security.
