International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO)

An international organization striving to create uniform regulations for efficient and fair markets. The primary focus is on futures and world securities markets. Based in Madrid, Spain, they also help with the enforcement of regulations involving securities trading. Members of this organization are typically securities commissions. It was originally established in 1974 and called the Inter-American Conference of Securities Commissions. However, in 1983, the group expanded beyond North and South America and therefore, changed its name to the International Organization of Securities Commissions.
