noncumulative

A term used to describe shares of preferred stock that do not entitle the owner to receive unpaid dividends. Owners of preferred stock usually receive a fixed dividend. If a company decides not to pay a dividend in a given quarter, the owner of noncumulative shares does not have the right to receive these unpaid dividends in the future.
