option period

1. Finance: A time frame or period of time, which is valid for an option to be exercised before or on the expiration date. On the expiration date, the investor no longer has a choice but has to exercise the option. 2. Housing: A time when the buyer has a choice to either continue with purchase or terminate the contract before this period expires. An option fee is paid which acts as a guarantee that the seller will not make an offer to someone else until the potential buyer has made a decision within the option period.
