A group of indices which are used in combination to gauge current home prices across the United States. These indices include 20 metropolitan regional indices, a national index, and two composite indices. The index doesn't provide an accurate depiction of current prices, however, due to the two month delay in reporting. Prices reported in December would be reflective of current prices from October. Investors typically use the index to forecast how the housing market will perform in the coming months based on data from previous months.
