bulletin board stock

A type of stock that is not traded on any standardized exchange. This is usually due to the fact that they do not meet the specified requirements for exchange trading. These can also come about as a result of bankruptcy filings or the fact that the company is still growing and unable to meet the criteria established by an exchange.
