intermediate service provider

An intermediary who facilitates the processing of tax return data submitted electronically by an IRS authorized e-file provider (ERO) or taxpayer prior to transmitting the return to the IRS. The provider ensures that the proper third party identification is attached to the return and serves as a point of contact between the IRS and the ERO.
