McCarran-Ferguson Act of 1945

Federal legislation that gives each state the ability to self-regulate insurance businesses within their state without having to follow regulations set forth by the federal government unless certain practices interfere with federal law. This piece of legislation came about after a Supreme Court case which involved several states that expressed concern over commerce and interstate laws that they felt prevented them from regulating insurance businesses within their states.
