return on new invested capital (RONIC)

A financial instrument used by organizations or investors to measure additional profit that will be earned by utilizing more capital. RONIC measures the expected profit that would be obtained when additional capital is turned into expenditures with time. Therefore, RONIC should not be confused with Return on Invested Capital (ROIC), which involves calculation of yield on already invested capital.
