target fund

A specialized mutual fund that invests exclusively in bonds that mature at a specific target date. Once the maturity date is reached, all the proceeds are distributed to shareholders and the fund self-liquidates, ceasing to exist. While similar to a unit investment fund (UIT), unlike UITs a target fund is actively managed and a management fee is charged annually.
